Bunk Beds

It was a long wait, but we have two very happy girls! They love their new bunk beds - and no one has fallen out yet. In fact, if we can't find them, chances are they've climbed that ladder and have entered a make believe world on the top bunk.

Our Little Mommy

Delaney has announced that she will be doing everything for Elliott. Well, everything except changing his diapers -- yuck!!! She needs lots of practice with babies, since she is going to have 10 kids when she grows up.

3 am

As a mother with an infant, I am used to getting up in the middle of the night. Typically, I hear Elliott crying through the monitor and I stumble half-awake into his room. Back into my bed I go, with the little man in my arms. I change him and feed him in a state of semi-consciousness. Somehow, I am aware enough of the situation to realize when he is finished nursing and I lift him to my shoulder to burp him. Inevitably, he snuggles in on my chest and I doze off. This is not quality sleep, as I am worried that he'll roll off me, I'll drop him over the side of the bed, or more likely, daddy will roll over and squish us both! So, with my eyes only open enough to navigate my way back down the hall, I tuck Elliott back into his crib. All of this I can do without totally opening my eyes or truly being alert.

However, there are 3 words that will snap me out of a deep sleep immediately and send me flying out of bed at the speed of light. Moms, you know what they are -- "mommy, I'm sick!" I think I knew Delaney was there before she spoke. And we were in the bathroom, head in toilet in a split second! And today, I am a zombie with the combined needs of an infant and a sick girl keeping me up most of the night!

Drool Fest 2007

Posted by Picasa
Look closely . . . there is a perfect string of drool from Elliott's mouth all the way to the blanket. He is like a faucet - constantly drooling and mouthing everything he can. The drool, combined with the crazy nights must mean that teeth are coming. At least I hope so, otherwise he's just having some fun keeping his mom up half the night! On the other hand, he's an aggressive eater, so I'm not sure that I even want him to get teeth! Whatever happens, I can't ever be crabby about it for too long. Just look at that face! He's already got me all figured out - one smile and I melt!

Turn It Up!

It's rare, but today I had on the radio while on the way out to lunch. Usually it's some type of kids' music, selections chosen by the munchkins in the backseat. The first few notes of a song introduction played and Jillian yelled from the back, "Turn it up, mom! It's my song!" Give it a listen. . . she knows EVERY word!(She has good taste - I think both aunties would agree).

Where I'd Rather Be . . .

Minnesota's long winters sure get me down. Just those few days of sunshine last week were like a dose of really strong medicine - picked me right up. But back to cold and dreary has brought me down again. If it weren't so bad for your health, I'd be one of those mega tan gals always at the tanning salon - it does help with the winter blues. But in trying to set a good example for my children, and thinking about what I don't want my skin to look like in 20 years, I'm just one of those white winter ghosts! I've been thinking a lot about our trip to Hawaii last year ~ the sun, the sand, and the tropical scent on the breeze. Thanks, Vicki and Aaron, for giving us a reason to make that trip. It will always be a special to us; after all, we brought home the most wonderful souvenier! And there's no place else I'd rather be!
